Arthur Oakthorne

Bio

Arthur is the Duke of Rootrun and the master of a mythic cryture known as The Verdant King. He leaves most of the day-to-day management of the town to his court, while he visits the outlying farms, using The Verdant King's power to fertilize their crops with its fairy dust.

Arthur learned conjuring from his mentor, King Noah Stormfischer, who also happens to be the first known conjurer to bind a mythic cryture. Under the king's tutelage, he befriended his fellow students, Lucas Loric and Kasper Starber. Together, the three of them became known as a legendary trio of conjurers, with many fantastic exploits and expeditions to brag about. Chief among them was the hunt for The Verdant King, which ended with Arthur managing to bind the mythic cryture, after a lengthy trek through the wilderness and a vicious battle with the king and its entourage.

Since then, Arthur and his friends have been hard at work, founding Rootrun and building it up into the agricultural powerhouse it is today.

Ambition

Arthur mainly concerns himself with building up human civilization in the midst of the wilderness. He recognized early on that food production would be of great importance to this goal, which is why he sought out The Verdant King and founded Rootrun as an agricultural center.

Despite his love for civilization, Arthur has a strong conservationist philosophy. He believes that humans should spread out as much as possible, rather than cluster together in cities, and practice a high degree of self-reliance.

Strengths

In battle, Arthur boasts great skill with ranged weapons such as the bow, but is also adept in melee combat, if the need arises. He wields an arsenal of powerful crytures as well, focusing on plant and fairy types. The Verdant King is Arthur's ultimate weapon, and is more than a match for most non-mythic crytures.

Although Arthur lives as nobility, his experience on numerous expeditions has made him extremely knowledgeable about the wilderness and surviving in it. In addition, he shares a particularly strong bond with his crytures and has learned to employ their various abilities to great effect over the course of many years with them.

Socially, Arthur is a charismatic leader and enjoys the company of lower-class people, giving him a high degree of popularity among his subjects.

Weaknesses

Arthur's focus on Plant crytures can leave him vulnerable to a variety of cryture types, and even more so for those that also share the Fairy type, as none of their weaknesses are canceled out. His desire for a challenge can also cause him to hold back in battle, deliberately not taking advantage of openings in order to prolong a fight.

Much to the chagrin of his noble peers, Arthur is a man that loves to engage in competitions and challenges, even ones that are considered low-brow to the nobility. This can lead to many distractions - and so much wasted time - that he has come to be known for tardiness, even on important matters.

Astral Pocket

Arthur's astral pocket takes the form of a literal tree house, where the branches and trunks of an entire forest intertwine and merge together to form a sprawling mansion in the canopy. These branches can grow and rearrange themselves as Arthur wishes, to create shorter pathways, so getting from place to place is never a lengthy walk.

The Verdant King has its own personal room in the base of the largest tree of the forest, although what's on the inside of it is completely unknown to everyone else. Even Arthur has been unable to enter The King's chamber, as it is always firmly locked and magically protected.

The forest itself is vibrant and grows a variety of fruits, vegetables, carnids, and other subcrytures. Arthur's crytures can usually be found pigging out on the endless supply of snacks.
